Bible Commentary: Introduction to 2nd Thessalonians

2 Thessalonians was written by the Apostle Paul around A.D. 49-51 to the church at Thessalonica, shortly after 1 Thessalonians. Paul wrote this letter in response to a fresh report that the Thessalonians had been alarmed by a false teaching that “the day of the Lord” had already come. He wrote to reassure them that this was not the case, to encourage them to persevere through persecution knowing that God would avenge them, and to admonish lazy individuals in the church.
